Access Event Viewer. Launch it by searching your Start menu for “Event viewer”, or by running “eventvwr.msc ” in Run.
Explore Event Categories. Discover Events Viewer’s categories such as Application Security, Setup and System.
Errors & Warnings To quickly identify errors and warnings, view red and yellow errors. To see logs associated with any particular category simply click it.
View Event Details. Double-click an event to access its details, noting the specific code or message associated with it.
Research Event IDs Make use of online databases, Microsoft’s Event ID documentation or Microsoft to understand what Event IDs mean and their possible causes.
Correlate With Timestamps. Examine timestamps and patterns to identify recurring events or patterns; if errors arise in conjunction with specific user or system actions, determine if they may be linked together.
Filter Event Logs. Use “Filter Current Log” to filter logs based on event level (Error/Warning), source or source/event combination.
Examine patterns. Recognize recurring issues, similar error codes or warnings as indicators of potential systemic issues.
Check for Possible Solutions To address specific Event IDs, it is a good idea to review any proposed resolutions or known fixes suggested from reliable resources or community forums.
Address Causes. Take appropriate troubleshooting steps based on research and identified patterns to address errors, warnings or any other issues based on its cause.
