Take Ownership. In order to override existing restrictions on a file or folder’s ownership rights, take ownership by right-clicking > Properties > Security > Advanced > Change Owner.

Adjust Permissions. Modify permissions by selecting the user or group and making necessary modifications – whether granting, denying, or altering their access levels. Click Edit > Add/Remove > Apply > OK when finished.

Inheritance Settings. Before setting inheritance as active or disabled, check whether inheritable permissions could alter access. Adjust any necessary settings if necessary.

Verify Group Memberships. When verifying group memberships for users, be sure that each of them are granted sufficient permissions through their group memberships.

Audit Permissions Changes. Enable auditing to track changes made to file and folder permissions for security and compliance reasons.

Test Access: Log into as the user experiencing access issues and attempt to access the file or folder with restricted permissions in order to verify whether permission changes have corrected any potential problems.

Document Changes. For future reference, keep a record of any permission modifications or adjustments made for future reference.

Regular Review. Conduct regular reviews of file and folder permissions to ensure they adhere to security policies and user access requirements.
