SharePoint Administrators must address SharePoint server issues quickly in order to keep their collaborative and functional environments operational. SharePoint is a complex system which requires focus on all its parts; otherwise it could break down completely and become an impediment to business operations.
Here are a few things a SharePoint Administrator must keep in mind when solving SharePoint issues:
- Recognize SharePoint site problems unique to yours, such as performance degradation or unavailability.
- Analyze Site Permissions. Ensure that users can access SharePoint resources with appropriate access permissions.
- Verify SharePoint is running. Central Administration or PowerShell commands can be used for service status checking and restarting, if necessary.
- Use SharePoint Health Analyst to quickly detect any problems with site collections.
- Analyze ULS Logs (Unified Logging Service), looking for errors and warnings using SharePoint Diagnostic Studio or ULS Viewer to analyze them.
- Investigate any customizations or third-party solutions, disable components as necessary or troubleshoot their operation.
- The SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard can help repair or reconfigure SharePoint installations that have become corrupt.
- You should regularly monitor the disk space available on SharePoint servers, databases and other systems to detect low diskspace which can cause performance issues.
